I hope that you are all enjoying the good old British summer, taking the opportunity, when the weather is good, to get outdoors in our beautiful county.
It has been much busier at the food bank in July, with 156 parcels going out to our clients, feeding 235 adults and 144 children. This makes a total of 1012 parcels for the year so far and with the introduction of Universal Credit, which everyone on benefits will be moving to over the next few months, we are bound to see a further rise. Recently a lady from one of the local housing associations came in to the food bank and explained all about the problems facing clients during this change. There will be a 5 week wait for benefits, with some clients having to wait 6 weeks. As you can imagine, this is a huge problem for people who are already living ‘hand to mouth’ each week and so we anticipate a big rise in the number of food vouchers being given out.
In readiness for Harvest, we have undertaken a deep cleanse of the food bank store and reorganised storage. We have also had new shelving delivered in the ‘overflow’ storage room so that we can make better use of the space available.
Some of you may have seen publicity in the Daily Echo recently where the owner of Poole Speedway, Matt Ford, donated a cheque in support of a new satellite food bank which will be opening at the beginning of September at Parkstone Evangelical church. Initially the satellite will open on Tuesday mornings and will help those people in crisis, who live nearby, to access the food bank without the journey into Poole which, for some, may involve a long walk. Non- perishable food parcels will be provided to the church, so they can meet demand.

Tinned rice puddings, Tinned fruit, UHT Milk
Fruit Juice – Cartons or Bottles of Squash
Tinned potatoes, Tinned peas and carrots
Jars of jam
It is only through the generosity and support of all of you out there and individuals such as Matt, that we are able to help make a difference to those in crisis, and as always want to say a huge thank you on their behalf and also from the food bank.
